TGIF indeed!

Its been a great day so far, and its already 5pm! First up, this came in:

Only took 1 week to deliver after I ordered online in amazon.com! Always a fan boy of Cesar Millan, I agree with him that the words "dominance" and "control" are often associated with negative connotations. People need to see that Dominance can also mean guidance and direction, whereas control is just another word for say, a parent stopping a kid from eating too much sweets or something.

Anyway, im already immersing myself into the world of millan and i hope to glean some additional info that I didnt manage to catch or understand from his dog whisperer shows and his random youtube videos. Cool stuff!

Next up, I managed to motivate myself to work with friends during a weekend that I usually would spend at the dog shelter. Of course, this means giving up on my commitment to GPF for that weekend. No choice la, money is required nowadays and I need to prioritise...

Thirdly, I'm still keeping up with Commercial Law, much to my surprise! Super lot of readings to be done and understood, I'm glad I can keep up with the pace (even if its only for now!). Did afew hours of reading yesterday and today..yay~!

Lastly, I'm just glad of my own progress these few months. Looking back, its been really quite tough as I had to juggle quite afew important aspects of my life. I've made new friends in both school and GPF, maintained and cherished the current ones, did okay for first sem of school, (could be better, but wtheck) managed my finances decently, what else can I complain about? =]

Anyway, gotta rush to school now... till next time!

Thanks for the feedback, I'm grateful and humbled!

1 week of 2013 has passed. I've been pretty passive about things this year(I hope), and being more open with myself about my short-comings.

It's been great so far. Truth or truth(dare) sessions with most of my cliques of close friends has been quite rewarding, if not entertaining LOL!

I'd just like all of you to know that I've really heard your concerns regarding certain areas about myself that all of you have mentioned and I've taken your inputs seriously into consideration and I'm hoping I can change for the better based on them =]

To C: Your input's too "cheem" for me! I'm not sure if I got it right, but if I did, I'd make sure our future correspondences would be....carried out swiftly.. =P

To M: I actually have goals in life! I'm just kinda worried that I can't keep up with myself and hence I don't voice out the full extent of what I'm really hoping for. I don't wanna disappoint everyone and myself.. =/
Of course you can always ask me if you're interested haha..

To L: You should have been there =/

To M2: Even though I've always been putting you down (jokingly of course!!), its been my pleasure to have known you and thanks for the reminder about life in general. I see alot of me in you, and I'm glad to be able to learn from your strengths and help you out in your weaknesses.

To J: This would be my feedback to you. Please do read through everyone's inputs and try to see things from different angles/point of views, you might just understand why people react the way they did/do. And yes, we're still friends lol~

To B clique: Sorry I can't be as thorough as I did to the above people, but I'd like to let you peeps know that it's been really fun that night HAHA!

To P clique: Let's meetup soon please! It's been fun talking about old times haha =D

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moving on, school's starting soon and I need to buck up to close the GPA gap..! Gonna study after this post so I won't feel so guilty wasting too much time hahaha~

My singing's been really rocky recently... on off on off. I'm not sure what to do, cause I apparently can't stick to resting much...sigh...how ahhh~~

I don't like ending posts on a negative note, so I'm glad to have stuck around GPF! The atmosphere and people feels right, and yesterday was the first time I went out to dinner with the regulars. They're really jovial people with lots of life experiences, and I'm really really glad to have been there!

I guess it can't really go wrong, when we're all there for a common cause and passion.  =]

PS: To the 2 people who are probably sniggering, DON'T THINK TOO MUCH! >.>''

Till next time!

2013!

It's yet another new year~

Usually I make new year resolutions but this year it's gonna be more of the journey rather than the destination(or objective).

My hopes of singing has recently been revived as somehow my condition has weirdly improved. Absolutely no idea why. I'll just go with the flow I guess!

This year I hope to start on 2 things I was supposed to do years ago, we'll see how it goes. No objectives are to be met, but I do need to make a conscious effort!

I'm glad to have fallen back on my "lost" passion recently when I was feeling down. Thanks Daryl and the rest of the fur kids (though they obviously can't read HAHA) , for showing me the results of sticking to commitments! I will continue to watch and learn!

And since I'm paying for my education, I will be sure to put in more effort in scoring for this sem's modules, to pull up my GPA~

I think I've been doing my part in organising and participating in friends meet up in 2012, but nevertheless I will continue to do so in this coming year =]

I'll make sure to spend more time with granny this year, and make up with "her" sooner or later, once I've cleared my own short term goal..

Gambatte-yo mina san!

All forms of relationships need effort from all parties

As title suggests, I've been thinking bout the recent incidences that I've seen happened.

An army friend of mine recently broke up with his other half and was really depressed for awhile. He's better nowadays though, and has since learnt and grown from it. Super proud of him and I know he's just gonna become a better person and BF. (good luck for the next one ya? :D)

This other incident is ironically similar but yet totally different. I hope this friend of mine has the courage and wisdom to face reality and do damage control, or it's just gonna escalate till a point whereby nobody can help (or even empathise). All the best my friend...

From incident 1/2, I totally felt the need to reconnect with all existing friends. Maybe it's guilt on my side that sometimes I don't put in effort in maintaining these bonds I have with these people who were there (some of them anyway) when I was down and stuff. Don't be too passive, and don't try TOO hard. Mm..

Anyway I digress. The main reason I decided to blog this time round was to remind myself to be honest and truthful to the people around me, and be more sincere in maintaining friendships.

This reminders came in the form of a recent event that got me quite disappointed. Person A(no names as usual) pulled a no-show without any notification. Neither was person A apologetic. My instincts has been kicking me in the guts that even Mum A pulled a fib in person A's stead. I hope my instincts are wrong but I somehow doubt that :/
I rather person A decline to go for the event rather than weaving fibs. No point right? We've known each other for a long time...
Person B came though, with totally no intention to follow through. Guts tell me person b is in the loop of person A's "predicament", and probably was told to keep mum as well. What happened to the basic values of making things work? :/
Furthermore person b had clearly stated the inconveniences of providing conveniences. A friend in need is a friend indeed<-- fail =(

Kinda makes me sad that my brain is telling me that A/B have become so mercenary-like. Sigh...

Regardless of what happened, I've already looked past the matter and would rather let sleeping dogs lie. "To err is human, to forgive divine." I'm sure I've made my share of mistakes and I guess all these are part and parcels of forgiving and forgetting.

On a happier note, I've been volunteering at a random dog shelter one of my friends had previously helped out at, and I'm finding it very enriching and satisfying. This weekend commitment further justifies my passion and love for dogs. Awesome stuff, I'm quite sure I'm gonna continue this stuff for another year at least... ^^

Now I just wish that I've the wisdom and determination to get to my objectives and subsequently defuse a bomb I should have done so awhile ago...

Till next time,

More than a month since

Since the decision. Things have kinda died down more or less, but my resolve stands still, at least until my objectives are met.

This decision will just further strengthen my own determination and independence, which I guess will help me in the long run..

On a lighter note, I started volunteering at a dog shelter called "gentle paws and friends", ever since my exams ended. It's something I look forward to every week and keeps me moving forward. As I'm on vocal break(supposedly >.>), I'm exploring other non conventional options to spend time. Here i am, finally back to my roots, which is caring for dogs (something I've always wanted to do as a kiddo)

Friends have been busy with their own schedules in life and maybe I should too, but I guess I'm leaving it to fate :P

Anywayy, I've got almost 2 months more to my next semester in school so I really need to remind myself to stay grounded and disciplined to work for my goals.

#slightly-more-motivated!

Feeling Blue~

Recently I've been feeling quite down... :(

What to do, I'm never the most important one anyway~

I've decided to stop this negative thinking, what's the point of lamenting and feeling like crap where nothing's gonna change anyway.

I'm gonna start doing things for myself and myself only. Not gonna care and bother putting in effort bout the rest.

And I'm apologetic to my bros who fet the blunt of my short temper-ness recently... SORRY! >.<

Time to start living life the way I deserve for myself.

Mind over body(almost...lol)

Today I was pangseh-ed by a friend of mine who wanted to meet up outside and study/work. I'm guessing he's either: too lazy to go out or he made another arrangement liao.

Anyhow, I was left to study alone last minute. I'm sure most people will just stay at home and try to study(won't work as one knows that studying at home doesn't work anyway, therefore making plans to go out to study). I did something even I didn't expect. I went ahead with the plan to go out to study alone anyway!

-moment of silence and then applause please- :D

Managed to cram about 30% of revision in 3hours or so, with the first hour being extremely slow. Not bad I'd say, considering the relatively noisy mac environment. Quite proud of myself too, for staying focused and decently productive despite the many whatsapp/SMS/phone call distractions that came. ^.^

Motivation is often under utilised. Some call it mind f-ing, some say brainwashing. I say, whatever works, works!

Hope I can maintain this attitude/willpower/perseverance through my semester and get really good grades. I know my folks will be über proud(even though they won't say/admit it)

暗爽就好了啦~ =P

Going to the mac near my house to continue part 2 of studies. Wish me luck! =D

ORD LO!

2 years came and gone by. Now I'm finally a free man again! =D

Felt really surreal when I woke up the next day after ORD-ing...but I guess one has to move on with life.

Reminiscing on the past, this peekture reminds me of the good ol' days in poly when I was pretty carefree!

(sidenote: the day I screwed up singing LOL)

Anywayy, time to move on! Gotta few objectives for myself these few months before school starts:

1. Get my bloody license (like finally HAHA)

2. Bbball! Time to get back in shape :P

3. Work 3months or so? Get some extra cash to splurge on stuff like holidays and such...

4. Catch-up on all the animes/mangas I've missed out these 2 years...

Time to start moving! =D

5...4...3...2...1..ORD LO!

In another 5 working days i'll be ORD-ING!
Feels so surreal hahaha...no more sai kang, no more politics, no more lousy management. (I hope!)

I realised person A is as good as undermining (or even better) than person B. Its so interestingly subtle to the point that almost nobody realises. HAHA you can enjoy your undermining while i ORD LO! =]

Have fun being the boss, because u can't be free of your bonds (not yet anyway) :D

Sidetracking a little, but I've always wondered about the days if the management didn't have the people to rely on. Tried it, but too bad i never gotten myself into that kinda position.

Too bad Person C didn't want to do it as well, I guess I thought wrongly =/

------------------------------------------------------------------
Anywayy, I've been thinking about FT studies VS PT studies...my mind and heart is telling me to go for PT studies cause I'll probably be able to cope regardless. But some unknown feeling inside (tsk, devil's advocate) is telling me not to do it. Sigh, I need to decide in 2 week's time... =(

Meanwhile, im just gonna chillax and enjoy ORD-ING wahaha~

Negativity

Had a colleague who blogged about negativity recently, and he mentioned that it became widespread (like a plague).

If you ask me, there isn't fire without smoke.

To have gossip-mongers/pessimistic people around, there must have been problems that surfaced and were not tackled properly.

He shouldn't be complaining about the consequences. Instead, he should be solving them(some at least)(like he should have, as appointed).

Ridiculous point of view, but entertaining nevertheless  ;)

Anywayyy, I dont care. I have 84 days to go. HOHO ^^

PS: Happy new year to all the peeps out there!

To trust my brain or my heart.

Have been contemplating this particular picky issue for awhile now.

Some stuff had happened over the past few months and it led to much unpleasant-ness.

Have been asking myself the same question every night when I go to sleep....

Should I continue to try to value-add to the cause?

or should I not try and be an ass?

My brain is telling me to prove a point by being an ass, and its logically correct.
My heart is telling me otherwise, telling me that being an ass is not being true to myself and not sticking to my principles...

ARGH. BRAIN/HEART CAN YOU GUYS STOP FIGHTING?!

I've yet to decide. but i think my heart's gonna win =/

and somehow i'm not happy about that (note the irony: brain controls happiness)

Regardless, i need to sleep now so...

will come back in afew weeks time to "update results", so as to speak(type). lol.

Dearest JK who ORD-ed day.

Today was a day of super mixed feelings. a day of significance, a day of turnover.

Today was JK's ORD.

Hard to describe my feelings in mere words, overwhelming would be an understatement.

Anyhow, have to thank JK for his guidance in CBT section all these while, from the 1st day I came in, acting as my upper for half a month while CPT WJP decided my future appointment.

Following which he had been guiding me both in E-HR and moral(e) issues at work!

Many a time when i was feeling angsty at work he would listen to my ramblings and throw in his 2cents, hich often make me feel alot better~

Nearing his disruption I was so sad he was leaving as he was the last of the NSF batches that I was really really close with.

Now he ORDs and I'm feeling it again. SIGH~

And as if work wasn't hard enough nowadays.

Shall not elaborate, im sure most close friends who read this blog(if any still do) knows about it roughly anyway.

Was only disappointed about 1 thing, why you no tell us?! Pink IC = no influence already what!

Of course, I'd understand if you made a promise and you wouldn't want to break it.

Thank you for trying anyway (somewhat), its much appreciated :')

.
.
.
Looking back at year 10/11, I've realised I've wasted my time in trying so hard at something and neglecting everything else that really mattered. I neglected myself!

And now when that thing is falling apart, it truly made me feel like an idiot for trying. Should have focused on personal development in those 2 years instead.

No matter,  I shall utilise my next 95 days for myself. Only for myself.
.
.
.
.

I had a sudden thought that my understudy won't be coming on 17 Jan 12 just because he's not happy with me(us?).

If its true I swear I'll play c*****n and **. Pride will get us nowhere, but it will be you that suffers in the long run, as I have none.

Hoho, and I'm still deciding whether to shift delete project or not.

Time will tell, especially in the next 2 weeks at work..

95 days left, FIGHT ON!  >=O

Interesting insights

Recently I've noticed some of my acquaintance have been quite sneaky.

Person A is trying very hard all these while to undermine and overthrow and people have been deceived by the apparent facade.

Person B has been leeching on my negativity yet wayang-ing so that only I take the hit.

=/

Nevertheless im not much affected, I'm gonna go soon anyway xD

Also have realised that in recent turns I finally understand what it means to provide "customer service".

Mentioned that in my FB but thought i should elaborate it here to remind myself.

The passion that fuels my job interest should lie in the satisfaction that I get from being able to make a change in the customers' lives, not being praised/commended by supreriors/colleagues. The latter should only be a form of encouragement and not THE source of my passion.

lol im writing in riddles. oh well, till next time =]

Horrified and disappointed

Just found out that there's a possibility of me swapping out with another guy from other branch in my unit. Nothing is confirmed yet, but the possibility alone reminds me of the hard truth:

"Once product life cycle is ending and it's starting to give problems, start to think of how to throw it away."

Sad. Yet true.

Why did I even give my all in the first place? I wonder...

Reflections, nearing the end and feeling it :)

Over today's chit-chat and catching up with a few colleagues who im very close with, I've decided (again) to pen down my thoughts to remember the past and plan for the future by remembering how mistakes are made and how not to commit them again.

 3 theories of people management:

1. Observe your boss. Learning and understanding your boss's personality is extremely vital to your future. A good boss promotes sharing in an encouraging environment where EVERYONE is involved and WANTS to perform even better. He acknowledges his workers' efforts and attitude at work with regard to both people and matters. He generously rewards the deserving and further motivates the rest to be like them. He embraces change (since it is inevitable anyway) and is pro-active in allowing his workers to take charge and learn from the changes (good or bad).

Inversely, an inflexible boss equates to less productivity, motivation, creativity and willing-ness to share.

 2. Observe your colleagues. Do they stop discussion once you draw near? Are they willing or even pro-active in sharing work and/or personal life issues with you? Do they approach you for help? Do they thank you?

If the answer is "no" to all of the above, you might be facing issues with your colleagues. I'm glad I can say that these signs are spotted at my workplace, and I'm glad to have a awesome working/friend relationship with them (most, anyway).

Understanding how your colleague feels about you is important at work as it means how people see you as a person, whether is it your personality or work efficiency, and this can be translated into both tangible (think bonus) and intangible assets (think favours and friendship and respect and many more gained).

-Underlined text is quoted from a ex-boss i respect.

 3. Observe yourself! I guess this forms the basis of your performance in life! Many neglect this important self-reflection that should happen constantly. Be honest with yourself. What strengths and weaknesses do you think you have? Do the strengths and weaknesses you possess coincide with what others perceive you to have? Are you value-adding yourself to others?

If "yes", then good for you! You're on the road to success. A person who is well-liked by his colleagues and bosses will be on his/her way up the corporate ladder really quickly!

If "no", you gotta start reviewing the reasons why it is not so =/

 ==========================

Just had the mood to pen these thoughts down as I see people (myself included) making mistakes so every often. I shall quote again from my favourite basketball player of all times, Michael Jordan:

1. “The minute you get away from fundamentals – whether its proper technique, work ethic or mental preparation – the bottom can fall out of your game, your schoolwork, your job, whatever you’re doing.”

2. “I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.”

Some decent food for thought I hope!

Bosses

Sometimes people get so frustrated over their bosses at work..so kaypo me went to find an article on how NOT to be an annoying boss.. here goes.

The Vague One

Ravi Kathuria, president of the Houston consulting firm Cohegic Corp, says that he once worked for a cagey character who never made his desires clear. "He would say that he likes to keep things ambiguous for his management team," say Kathuria. "His belief was, that way, they would develop better solutions." In real life, however, the strategy was a failure: "It created confusion in the management ranks. His team never knew where they stood with him."

To focus a flighty leader, you'll need to pin him down and get details. "If he says, 'I just want us to be successful,' ask, 'What would success look like?'" suggests Scott. Ask for as many specifics as possible: how many units you'd need to sell or what profit target you should hit, for instance, or if the deadline you're working on will meet his goals.

Don't be shy about touching base early and often. If your boss is sending you off on a fishing expedition, at least know what you're supposed to catch.

The Micromanager

It can be infuriating to have someone watching your every move. For your own sanity, never forget what motivates micromanagers: "They're concerned about their own reputation and really care about the final product," says Scott.

The best way to manage micromanagers is to get out from under them occasionally: Navigate your way onto cross-functional teams, for instance, so you're dealing with other leaders. Since that's not always possible, Scott also suggests offering your expertise in an area in which your boss is weak, because he won't feel like he knows more than you and, if you're lucky, he'll come to see your expertise as a benefit to him. "Realize you won't get him to stop being a micromanager, but try to redirect his attention," says Scott.

Still getting the feeling there are eyes on you at all times? Ask if he's willing to agree on specific check-in points for a particular project when you will talk about any issues or concerns. This should make him feel more secure that nothing will slip through the cracks -- and allow you to slip out of his vise-like management grip.

The Bully

A bullying boss won't steal your lunch, but may steal any vestige of joy you get out of your job -- which, in turn, will make it hard for you to perform well enough to get a better offer. One PR specialist from Salt Lake City -- we'll call her Gina -- says a former boss made feedback personal.

"She treated everyone around her like they were stupid or incompetent. She was extremely negative, rolling her eyes and saying things like 'Oh my God, what a boring idea,'" Gina recalls. "The assistant account person was scared to death of her, frequently avoiding asking any questions because she would just insult her. It made for a terrible work environment."

The first step to beating a bully is doing good work that you can stand behind, and then standing your ground. "The bullying boss is very focused on results and wants things done now," says behavioral analyst Gayle Abbott, CEO of Strategic Alignment Partners in Virginia, who has worked with companies ranging from law firms to Lockheed Martin. "Identify what they want, what they value, and take action. These [types of] people also want you to come to them confident and tell them the truth -- even if they don't like it. Don't give made-up answers or platitudes."

One way to handle them: Whenever you're at a turning point, delegate up by giving them a few options; then let them make the choice. "This works because bullies like to make their own decisions. They don't want to be dictated to," says Abbott.

Of course, if you're being personally pummeled, you can always ask if you've done something wrong. A level-headed yet over-stressed boss may not realize how he sounds. And finally, if your manager is just a jerk with a capital J, you may need to start polishing up your resume. Life's too short.

The Narcissist

With some managers, it's all about me, me, me. "They design the processes around themselves. They network for themselves. They change the rules because they want to," says Gonzague Dufour, director of executive recruitment and development at Bacardi-Martini and author of "Managing Your Manager: How to Get Ahead with Any Type of Boss." While working for a narcissist can be frustrating, they're actually incredibly easy to figure out and please, says Dufour: "If you're smart, you're presenting everything from his perspective."

Tell her how your new software program will save her time; show how your new sales successes will boost her year-end numbers, or simply ask her how you can help her do her job better. And use your boss's vanity to your advantage: If you make her look good, you'll be more valuable to her -- and she'll be more inclined to help you perform.

The BFF

Being buddy-buddy with your boss isn't necessarily a bad thing: The more your manager likes being around you, the more likely he is to keep you on his team as he moves up the corporate ladder. But beware when the friendly small talk turns to personal gossip. Your new best friend may be using you to spy on other members of the staff -- and if he's talking trash about your colleagues, you can bet your next paycheck he's also bad-mouthing you behind your back.

The first thing to do is figure out your manager's motivation. "Some people just want to be liked," says Abbott. But if you suspect spying or even back-stabbing, beware.

"If you gossip, [your manager] can use that against you, because [he or she] won't trust you," says Abbott. Whenever the conversation turns to, say, who's flirting with the intern or having problems with their kids, change the topic to something more benign, like last night's episode of "Mad Men," and leave the drama on-screen.

So peeps, please remember to minimize the above mentioned traits! =]

*Reminds self to minimize gossiping LOL >.<*

How to be a better man (Guide + self reflection)

As title suggests...

I've been thinking about something that's been bothering me for awhile.

Decided to come up with some steps for myself on how to be a better man. (And also for whoever that still bothers to read this blog)

----------------------------------------

1. Decide what traits a 'good' person has. One can do this by observing people that he/she loves or respects. Realizing their best qualities and admirable traits and implementing them upon one's personality.

2. Don't force others into things you do. This involves religion, work, beliefs, culture, etc. Most people are happy with who they are, and won't necessarily respond positively to shoving.

3. Think before you speak. A good listener often is a "good" person. Subsequently, trust from others will follow. When you have the power of someones trust, do not take it for granted. Use this trust, to help people better themselves.

4. Empathize with others' plights or circumstances. Listening to your heart and following it instead of being judgmental contributes to your being a better person. Being honest in your dealings with others also promotes positive relationships. Problems arise when the truth is not spoken or twisted to suit one's motives. Choose your words carefully and precisely. Express yourself kindly.

5. Choose to grow. Rather than staying put where you are, choose to be a better person day by day.

I promise to reflect on what others say about me and try my very best to change for the better. Please let me know where i fall short... =/
